From Emory University Athletics
The Emory University golf team wound up its participation at the
Al Jones Memorial Tournament Tuesday afternoon, recording a
sixth-place finish out of nine squads. The 36-hole
competition was played at the 6,944-yard, par-71 Cascades Golf
Course in Tyler, Texas.
The Eagles shot a 301 over the final of 18 holes of action to
finish at 603. Taking home first place was No. 10-ranked and
host UT-Tyler with a 577 (285-292) while Washington & Lee
claimed runner-up honors with a mark of 587 (296-291).
Centenary College placed third at 599 while Mary Hardin-Baylor and
Cal Lutheran deadlocked for fourth with scores of 602.
Sophomore Sam Nichamin ranked as Emory's top performer
with his five over par 147 tying for eighth place in the 57 player
field. Senior Alex Wunderlich chopped seven strokes
off his first day of play to card a one-under par 70, tying for the
second-best mark on the day, to also finish at 147.
Junior Jonathan Gerrard closed out the tourney at 155
(79-76), good for 34th position on the leader board
while classmates Vince Sirianni (75-82—157)
and Alex Lynch (84-79—163) rounded out the Emory
representatives.
