New York University's men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Fall Qualifier, which was held on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28, at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, NY.
The Violets shot 609 overall (301-308), putting them in fourth
of the seven competing teams. The squad trailed competition-winner
University of Rochester (575) by 33 strokes.
NYU's fourth-place finish qualifies the team to compete in the
Spring Championship on April 25-26. This is the first time that the
team has qualified for the tournament since joining the league in
2012.
Hartej Gill led NYU on day two after being one of
the three low-scorers on day one. He finished tied for 11th place
after shooting 75 on day one and 74 on day two (149).
"We didn't play our best today, but we did enough to make it into
the top four, which was our main goal," said Head
Coach Todd Kolean. "Gill had a great tournament
today. Lynch had a couple big holes and got a big round out of it.
Park had his usual very solid scoring. The seniors had kind of a
hard day, but we did enough to get where we needed to be."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Paul Park finished the tournament tied for
13th place after shooting 152 (75-77).
- Daniel Lynch (154) shot 77 during both
rounds of competition, finishing tied for 19th place.
- Co-captains Matthew
Gjonaj and Kevin Chien both shot
156, tying for 22nd place.
"We have a little work to do before we compete in the
spring," Kolean added.
