New York University's men's golf team finished in fourth place
at the NYU/Manhattanville Invitational, which was held on
Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12, at the Forest Hill Field
Club in Bloomfield, NJ.
NYU had its "A" and "B" teams competing in the tournament. The A
squad placed fourth of 11 teams after shooting 618 (305-313),
finishing nine strokes behind competition-winner Skidmore College
(609). NYU's second team shot 647 (332-315) overall to finish in
seventh place.
Paul Park was the Violets' low scorer overall. He
shot 150 (72-78) and finished third in the 57-man field.
"We were trying to win it today instead of just playing our
game," Head Coach Todd Kolean explained. "I'm
really pleased with the way that the B team played. We gave away
strokes coming up to the clubhouse instead of just playing smart in
our game.
"Forest Hill is a tough course. It's short and the greens run
pretty quick, but if you're putting nicely you can do pretty well,"
Kolean added. "The rough is up now, so it
plays harder than in the spring."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Christopher Nolte of the "B" team finished
the tournament tied for seventh after shooting 154 overall.
- Co-captains Kevin
Chien and Matthew Gjonaj both shot
156, tying for 13th place.
- Hartej Gill tied for 18th place after
finishing at 157.
"This was our last event of a really long fall season. Our
goal for the fall was to qualify for the Liberty League
Championship in the spring, which we did," added Kolean. "It was a
great learning experience for our freshmen. I'm happy with the way
we played over the season, so I'm looking forward to the
spring."
