The New York University men's golf team completed competition at the NYU/Manhattanville Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 12, at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ.
The Violets finished in 12th place out of 12 teams, finishing 20 stokes ahead of Clarkson University with a 658 (330-328) overall team score. Williams College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tied for first place at 617 (315-302) overall, although the Ephs took the top spot by winning the tiebreaker.
"Obviously the golfers were disappointed in their play today," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean. "I think we were trying too hard to make up strokes at our home tournament, and we weren't able to accomplish that today."
Matthew Gjonaj was NYU's top finisher, as he finished tied for 40th out of of 74 golfers with a two-round 162 (80-82). Bryce Holmes, competing as an individual, was the next best Violet. The rookie tied for 42nd overall at 163 (83-80). Charles Van Cook also finished in the top 50, tying for 49th at 165 (83-82).
"Bryce is really beginning to come on in the latter part of the season," continued Kolean. "As a team, we were actually pretty good from the tee to the green, but we will be working on chipping and putting this week."
