From University of Rochester Athletics
The University of Rochester golf team finished in 16th place at
the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Raven
Golf Course as a part of the Sandestin Resort.
Playing against some of the best teams in NCAA Division III,
Rochester shot a team score of 304 in the final round, its best of
the three day event to finish with a final tally of 921. All
five UR golfers recorded rounds below 80 in the final round.
Methodist and Texas-Tyler finished the 54-hole tournament with
identical 869 scores to tie for first place. Overall, the
event featured 18 teams, 17 of which are either ranked or receiving
votes in the latest D-III poll, nine teams which participated at
the NCAA Division III Championships last year and seven of the
top-10 ranked teams.
Schumacher was the low UR golfer in 38th.
Rochester's top performer on Tuesday was junior G.W. VanderZwaag
who carded a +2 round of 73 which featured a lot of
fireworks. VanderZwaag recorded four birdies and an eagle on
the par-4 15th hole, one of just three eagles during the entire
tournament. His three day total was 228 to finish in a tie
for 51st place.
Dominick Schumacher was the highest Yellowjacket finisher on the
individual leaderboard finishing T38th after a final round 76
(+5). After a strong second round of even-par, Schumacher
posted a 226 score for 54 holes.
Sophomore Jona Scott placed T54 after his third straight consistent
round below 80. He fired a final round 78 to finish with 229
for the tournament. Classmate Matt van Niekerk and freshman
Luis Arteaga posted their best rounds of the tournament in the 3rd
round with van Niekerk posting a 77 and Arteaga shooting a 79.
Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia and Methodist's Mason Stutler ended
the 54-holes with identical 209 (-4) scores to finish tied for
medalist honors.
