From University of Rochester Athletics
Playing against many of the teams they hope to be playing
against at the NCAA Division III Championships in May, the
University of Rochester golf team carded a first round 308 and sits
in 18th place after day one of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational on
Sunday.
Rochester, ranked #16 in Division III is playing in a field with 14
teams in the top-25 including four of the top-5 in D-III.
UR had an up and down day one, finishing with a score of +24 for
its four scores of five golfers. Junior captain G.W.
VanderZwaag leads Rochester with a first round +3 (74) on the
par-71 Raven Golf Course at the Sandestin Resort. He sits in
T-34th.
Sophomore Jona Scott led the Yellowjackets with four birdies on his
round, but also had a couple hiccups on his way to a 77 (+6) on
Sunday. He finished strong with a back nine 35 (-1)
though. Scott was one stroke ahead of teammate Matt van
Niekerk who carded a first round 78 (+7).
Dominick Schumacher was UR's four scoring round after a first 18
hole score of 79. Freshman Luis Arteaga carded an 83 in round
one.
LaGrange College leads after the first round, shooting a
+2 score of 286, one shot clear of Tyler-Texas and four ahead of
3rd place Methodist.
