From University of Rochester Athletics
Playing on a tough Raven Golf Course at the Sandestin Resort and
facing the difficult task of competing against 13 other nationally
ranked schools, the 16th-ranked University of Rochester golf team
sits in a tie for 16th place after two days at the Golfweek
Division III Fall Invitational.
Rochester's total on Monday was 309, one shot worse than Sunday's
first round and the Yellowjackets combined total of 617 has them in
a tie with Christopher Newport after two days.
#7 Tyler-Texas has the lead after two days of play with a combined
score of +7 (575) with 3rd-ranked Methodist (576) right
behind. #5 Illinois Wesleyan is 3rd with #9 LaGrange and #15
Berry rounding out the top five.
Junior Dominick Schumacher was the biggest individual mover in the
entire 90 player field, improving his score by eight shots with an
even-par 71 on Monday. He carded two birdies, two bogeys and
14 pars in his second round to move from 75th to 36th place and
lead UR in scoring.
Sophomore Jona Scott had a solid 2nd round, finishing out his round
with back-to-back birdies on holes 8 & 9 to card a +3 score of
74. He led Rochester with three birdies on the day and is in
a tie for 43rd after two days.
Closing out the scoring for the Yellowjackets were junior G.W.
VanderZwaag (+10, 81), freshman Luis Artaega (+12, 83) and
sophomore Matt van Niekerk (+13, 84).
