Three Shoot Under 80, Rochester Sits 5th After Kravetz Day One

The University of Rochester golf team got three scores below 80 and sits in 5th place of six schools at the annual Fred Kravetz Invitational Tournament after round one at Irondequoit Country Club on Friday.
 
UR posted a team score of 316 on the day.  Conference rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute played well on the opening day, shooting a team score of 294 to hold the top spot.  Hamilton is in 2nd place with 298, Washington & Jefferson 3rd with 299.  Ohio Wesleyan is 4th after a 312 and McDaniel College rounded out the field after an opening round 318.
 
The Yellowjackets were led by sophomore Jona Scott who opened with a 77 (+5) on the par-72 layout; he sits in a tie for 14th place individually.  Freshman Luis Arteaga carded a 78 on Friday while junior G.W. VanderZwaag shot a 79.  Arteaga sits tied for 21st while VanderZwaag is tied for 24th.
 
Junior Dominick Schumacher carded an opening round 82 while sophomore Garrett Sweeney shot an 87.
 
Rochester also has six individuals playing in the event.  Freshman Corey Mitchener shot an opening round 74, posting the lowest score on the UR team and sits in a tie for 5th place.  Classmate Jason Paek shot 76 (T11), while Nick Mitchell carded a 77 (T14).  Junior Matt Michael had a 79 while Sean Hickey came in with an 82 and Scott Chudacoff ended with an 86.
 
The tournament's highlight of the day goes to Washington & Jefferson's Evan Lestini who aced the 130 yard par-3 6th hole.  The individual leader after round one is Lestini's teammate, Tim Novic, who carded the only under par round of the day, shooting a -1 score of 71.  Two RPI golfers, Jamie Jackson and Craig Bokenfohr are just one shot back after shooting even-par 72's.
