The University of Rochester golf team placed in 5th place of 6 teams at its annual Fred Kravetz Invitational on Saturday at Oak Hill Country Club.
The Yellowjackets improved its day two score by five stroke from Friday's opening round, but it wasn't enough to move up in the team standings. Rochester finished with a two day score of 627 after a Saturday score of 311 which tied for 3rd best in the field.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute took the team title after finishing with a 301 on Saturday, tying a 36-hole tournament record by scoring 595 over the two rounds. The Engineers earned their second straight Kravetz Tournament title after winning it two years ago in 2013. Washington & Jefferson slipped past Hamilton for 2nd place (606) while the Continentals (609) placed 3rd. Ohio Wesleyan was 4th, Rochester 5th and McDaniel finished in 6th.
The Yellowjackets were led by junior Dominick Schumacher on Saturday as the co-captain fired a 2nd round 75 (+4) on the par 71 Oak Hill West course. Schumacher finished in a tie for 20th place. UR's highest finisher among the starting five players was junior G.W. VanderZwaag. He posted a final round 77 and ended up tied for 17th place.
Garrett Sweeney shot a 78 on Saturday, improving his score by nine stokes on day two while both Luis Arteaga and Jona Scott completed the UR lineup by shooting 81's.
UR also had six individuals competing in the event. Freshman Nick Mitchell and Corey Mitchener both ended in a tie for 11th place overall with two day totals of 154. Mitchell carded back-to-back 77s and Mitchener ended with an 80 on Saturday. Jason Paek finished tied for 15th after his second straight round under 80, shooting 79 in round two.
The three other individuals competing for the Yellowjackets were Matt Michael (85), Scott Chudacoff (80) and Sean Hickey (87).
