The University of Rochester golf team carded a school record 280 in the 2nd round of the Fall Qualifier en route to a 12-stroke victory at Ravenwood G.C. on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets broke the school mark of 289 set by the 1991-92 team at the UAA Championship and the 2010-11 team also set at the UAA Championship.  Current head coach Dan Wesley was playing on the '92 team and then was the coach in '11 for the previous two record performances.

On Sunday, UR was led by three of the five in the lineup in red numbers for an under par round.  Sophomore Matt van Niekerk carded a 68 (-4) with six birdies and two bogeys to finish in a tie for 2nd place at 143 (-1).  Teammate and classmate Jona Scott finished with a 69 on day two, also ending with a 143 score to finish one shot out of medalist honors.  Scott's second round featured five birdies, an eagle and three bogeys, including birdies on four of the first six holes.

Freshman Garrett Sweeney also broke par with a 69 on Sunday, firing a clean round of 69 with three birdies and no bogeys.  Junior Dominick Schumacher was the fourth scorer, ending with a 74 to finish off the record breaking round.  Freshman Luis Arteaga carded an 80 on Sunday.  Sweeney ended in 6th place while Schumacher was tied for 7th.

Playing as an individual, junior G.W. VanderZwaag also was in the red, finishing with a -2 in the 2nd round to finish in a tie for 9th.
