Rochester Captures 2015 UAA Men's Golf Championship

The University of Rochester men's golf team captured the 2015 University Athletic Association Championship title on Monday at the Red Tail Golf Club.

The UAA title is Rochester's 11th in school history and first since 2013.  The Yellowjackets bested the four team field with a second round score of  300, the lowest of any school in the two day event, totaling 611 (+35) for the tournament.  Carnegie Mellon finished 2nd with a team score of 616, defending UAA champ Emory was 3rd at 632 and NYU was 4th.
 
Rochester's Dominick Schumacher reached a playoff for tournament medalist honors, but fell on the first playoff hole to George Qian of CMU.  Schumacher carded an even par 72 on Monday, tying for the best single round score during the tournament.  He was steady all day, finishing with 1 birdie, 1 bogey and 16 pars during his regulation round.  He scored a 148 (+4) for the two days.
 
Freshman Luis Arteaga finished tied for 5th after a second round 78, totaling 153 (+9) over the course of the tournament.  Sophomore Jona Scott also was T-5th after shooting 73 (+1) on Monday.  All three players in the top-5 earned 1st Team All-UAA honors.  It is the 6th time in school history and first since 1994 that UR had three 1st team selections.
 
Garrett Sweeney shot a 77 on day two and finished tied for 11th place with a total of 157.  He was awarded 2nd team All-UAA honors.
 
G.W. VanderZwaag was the final golfer in the UR lineup, he carded a 2nd day 81 and finished in 22nd place (164).
 
Four individuals represented UR as well during the tournament, with Corey Mitchener ending with the best result, tying for 15th place after a 160.  Scott Chudacoff was t-23rd (165), Matt Michael was 28th (176) and Sean Hickey was 29th (180).
 
The Yellowjackets now have a couple weeks off before their next scheduled tournament which is slated for April 5-6 at Hershey C.C. in Hershey, PA.
