From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team currently is in a tie for 19th-place following the first round of the 17th Annual Jekyll Collegiate Invitational played on Friday, March 18. The Tartans tied a season-best team score in the opening round with a 299. The field is comprised of 30 teams which has 13 of the nation's top 25 teams in Division III including five of the top seven. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.
Junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) led the Tartans with a two-under par 70 on Friday. Qian is tied for seventh individually out of a field of 150 golfers. Fellow junior Jordan Klodowski(Kittanning, Pa.) fired a three-over par 75 to open play.
Sophomores Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) and Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) both carded rounds of 77, as it marked a season-best round for Del Bosque. Junior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) rounded out the Tartans fifth spot with an 80 on Friday.
