The Emory University golf team closed out a strong season-opening effort at the Rhodes College Fall Classic on Monday.  The 36-hole competition was played at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Mississippi.

The Eagles tied with Centre College for fourth place out of 17 teams with a 36-hole score of 596 (302-294). Emory's final-day score tied for third best in the field and was the program's best performance since the 2014 UAA Championships when it carded a second-round 288.

Taking home the No. 1 spot was No. 9-ranked Berry College with a 581 (288-293), 11 shots better than No. 17-ranked and runner-up Southwestern (288-304-- 592). No. 24 Washington and Lee (300-294—594) held down the No. 3 spot.

Freshman Connor Yakubov paced the Emory effort with a one-over par 145, which included a second-day score of one-under 71 that tied for the second-best individual mark of the day. Yakubov tied with Luke Farley of Washington and Lee for the No. 2 spot in the 93-player field with Berry College's Ryan Elmore taking home medalist honors after posting a 143 (70-73).

Senior Jonathan Gerrard was the next Emory player to appear on the leader board at 150 (73-77), deadlocking him for 23rd place, while freshman Stefano Butti (77-74) and sophomore Keenan Hickton (78-73) tied for 28th with scores of 151.  Junior Sam Nichamin was part of the Emory contingent and carded a 76 on Monday that left him at 157.  Freshman Noah Apter, competing as an individual, made a fine account of him in his first collegiate tournament, chalking up a 151 (75-76).
