The New York University's men's golf team is in second place after round one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship, which is being held on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, NY.

The Violets shot 305 as a team and are in second place of 12 teams. The squad trails first-place St. John Fisher College (292) by 13 strokes.

NYU's Lucas Oberholtzer is currently tied for third place out of 68 competitors after shooting a one-over 73. The freshman is only three strokes behind the competition leader, Corey Haas (70) of St. John Fisher.

"It was a pretty good day under very cold conditions. Lucas was great, making an eagle on the last hole for plus-one 73," said Head Coach Todd Kolean. "We really have to avoid some big numbers and we will be right there with nationally-ranked St. John Fisher."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Eric Tarakjian, competing as an individual, shot a 76 during round one and is tied for seventh place.

- Freshman Qizhi Wong and sophomore Paul Park both shot 77 and are tied for 11th.

- Sophomore Bryce Holmes is tied for 17th place, finishing the round with a 78.

"I thick Bryce and Eric are really beginning to play well, along with solid numbers by Paul and Qizhi," added Kolean. "We are looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow."
