From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's golf team is in sixth place after the first round of play at the NYU Invitational, which the Violets are hosting at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 10-11.

The Violets shot 319 on Saturday, just one stroke behind Farmingdale State College and Manhattanville Coollege, who are tied for fourth place. Skidmore College leads the nine-team tournament after shooting 301.

Scott Sessions of Farmingdale State is the clubhouse leader after shooting a two-under-par 69. Overall, 52 golfers are competing over the par-71, 6,547-yard course.

NYU's Christopher Nolte, who is playing as an individual, is tied for third place after shooting 74.

Lucas Oberholtzer shot 77 and is the low scorer for the Violets. He is tied for 12th place.

"Luca played well, but left some putts right on the edge," said NYU Head Coach Todd Kolean.

Daniel Lynch (77) and Bryce Holmes (78) also played as individuals for NYU and are tied for 12th place and 16th place, respectively.

"We really are a one-through-eight team," Kolean explained. "It's just been trouble getting a set lineup together. On any given week, someone different is stepping up."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets' second-low team scorer was Eric Tarakjian, who shot 80 and is tied for 20th place.

- Paul Park, Qizhi Wong and Julius Oppenheimer all shot 81 and are tied for 24th place.

"Our top five guys played 15 good holes, but had trouble on three," Kolean added. "I'm looking forward to tomorrow and catching some teams."
