From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

For the second consecutive year, junior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team was named Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Golfer of the Month for March following his play during the Tartans' spring trip south.

Qian started the spring season with an average of 73.5 in six rounds during the month of March. The junior opened the spring with an eighth-place finish at the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate in a field of 84 golfers which was held on the Cotton Dike Course at the Dataw Island Club in Beaufort, South Carolina. Qian shot a 225 (79-78-68) for the 54-hole tournament and recorded a season-best low score of four-under par 68 during the final round. Less than a week later, Qian recorded two wins in match play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships March 12-13 at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida, and was named All-UAA.

A week following the UAA Championships, Qian helped the Tartans to a 16th-place showing at the 2016 Jekyll Island Collegiate with a school record team score of 888.  The 54-hole event featured 30 Division III teams that had 13 of the nation's top 25 teams and included five of the top seven. Qian finished as the team's top performer over the three-day tournament held at the 6,711-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island. He carded an even par 216 (70-73-73) and tied for 20th individually out of 150 golfers.

Qian has an average of 75.7 through 16 rounds this year with four top-10 finishes and an individual medalist honor.
