Yellowjackets Finish 21st In Strong Field In Georgia

The University of Rochester golf team competed in one of the best fields in Division III golf this weekend and ended in 21st place of 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational at the Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.
 
UR completed the 54-hole event with a team score of 897, scoring a 290 on day one, a 300 on day two and 307 in Sunday's final round. The Jekyll Island event featured 13 teams ranked in the Division III top-25 and 20 that were at least receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll.

16th ranked LaGrange College captured the team title with a total score of -5, 859 through three rounds. Top-ranked Methodist finished tied for 2nd with 10th ranked Rhodes with a -1 score of 863.  #9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was fourth at even-par (864).
 
Junior Jona Scott completed a fabulous tournament in a tie for 12th place after carding a final round 73 (+1) to finish at 214 (-2) overall. On Sunday, Scott recorded four birdies and five bogeys and overall in the tournament, he finished even par on both the par-3's and par-4's while shooting -2 on the par-5 holes.
 
Rochester's second finisher was sophomore Jason Paek who ended at 225 overall, carding a +5 round of 77 on Sunday. That score placed Paek in a tie for 76th overall.  He led Rochester in total pars in the tournament, shooting even on 39 holes, ranking in the top-10 in the field.
 
Junior Daniel Luftspring shot a +6 round of 78 on Sunday, finishing in 226 total strokes, good for a tie for 83rd.  Senior's G.W. VanderZwaag had a +7 round of 79 on Sunday and classmate Dominick Schumacher carded a final round 81 (+9) for the Yellowjackets.  VanderZwaag tallied a final score of 232 and Schumacher ended with a score of 241 for the tournament.
