Yellowjackets Place Fifth at Kravetz, Jona Scott Records Hole-In-One

The University of Rochester golf team ended in 5th place of six teams at the annual Fred Kravetz Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Oak Hill Country Club.
 
Rochester improved its score remarkably from round one at Irondequoit CC, playing 28 strokes better on its official home course, Oak Hill West.  UR finished the two day event with 636 strokes.
 
Franklin and Marshall took home the trophy with a  two day score of 614, after carding a 298 score on Saturday.  Carnegie Mellon ended in 2nd place with 625 while Rensselaer and Roberts Wesleyan placed in a tie for 3rd with 628.  Hobart ended in 6th at 704.

The Yellowjackets top performer in the tournament was senior Dominick Schumacher who carded a +1 round of 72 on Saturday, ending in a tie for 3rd with a final score of 151 for 36-holes.  Schumacher, playing as an individual in the tournament, ended just one stroke off of medalist score honors which went to Jon Meissner of F&M who won via tiebreaker over teammate Stephen Colodny.
 
Sophomore Luis Arteaga was UR's top starter on the leaderboard, ending in a tie for 7th after shooting a 75 in the second round, tallying 156 strokes over the two days.
 
Individual Scott Chudacoff and starter Jona Scott both ended in a tie for 13th at 158.  Chudacoff carded a 75 at Oak Hill while Scott ended the tournament with a 76, a round that featured an ace on the par-3 8th hole.
 
The rest of the Yellowjacket starters all ended up one stroke off of one another.  Senior G.W. VanderZwaag had a 77 on Saturday and earned a two-day score of 163.  Junior Daniel Luftspring backed up an opening round 83 with an 81 on day two for a 164 total.  Sophomore Jason Paek improved by 13 shots and ended at 165 after carding a second day score of 76.
 
The home tournament allowed for UR's entire roster to compete as five others also participated as individuals on the course.  Corey Mitchener posted a 168 after an 81 on Saturday while Garrett Sweeney ended with an 87 in his second round for a two-day score of 172.  Matt Michael (83) ended at 175, Sean Hickey (88) recorded a total of 184 and Jay Lam (92) finished at 196.
