Four Yellowjackets Earn GCAA Scholar All-America Awards

A record four golfers from the University of Rochester team in 2015-16 have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon Scholar All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) as announced by the organization on Wednesday. 

2016 graduates Dominick Schumacher and G.W. VanderZwaag along with rising seniors Jona Scott and Daniel Luftspring were Rochester's honorees.

In order to be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Both Schumacher and VanderZwaag were two-time honorees as they earned the award following the 2014-15 season as well.

Overall, across all three NCAA Divisions and the NAIA, a total of 390 student-athletes received Scholar All-America recognition.  Division I had 212 named, Division II saw 91 golfers earn the award while Division III had 75 honorees and the NAIA added 12.
