The University of Rochester golf team is headed to the finals of the 2016 UAA Championship. The championships this year have a new format as this play is a four-team match play event.
Rochester, the tournament's top seed, squared off against NYU in the opening round and handled the Violets, winning all six matches.
Senior co-captain Dominick Schumacher posted the biggest win of the day, winning 5&4 over Lucas Oberholtzer. UR also had a pair of 4&3 victories from junior Daniel Luftspring and sophomore Luis Arteaga. Luftspring won over NYU's Eric Tarakjian while Arteaga was victorious over Julius Oppenheimer.
UR's other senior co-captain, G.W. VanderZwaag impressed on the opening day of the tournament, winning 5&3 over Qizhi Wong with sophomore teammate Jason Paek posting a 2-1 win over Derrek Drozdyk.
The closest match of the day took place between Rochester junior Jona Scott and NYU junior Matthew Love. Scott would emerge with a 1-up win to complete the sweep for the Yellowjackets.
Rochester will square off with Emory University for the team title on Sunday as the Eagles topped Carnegie Mellon by a 4-1 score in the other semifinal.
