George Qian Ties School Record With 67 to Lead Tartans at Opening Round of Wynlakes Intercollegiate

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the first round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Alabama on Monday, March 27, and carded a team score of 291. The Tartans are currently in third-place heading into play on Tuesday in a field of 15 teams, including five teams ranked in the top seven nationally. The 36-hole event is being played at the par 72, 6,979-yard Wynlakes Golf & Country Club.

Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) led the Tartans with a school record-tying round of five-under par 67, the second time Qian has posted a round of 67 in his Carnegie Mellon career. The senior carded six birdies Monday afternoon and will enter play on Tuesday tied atop the leaderboard in a field of 80 golfers.

Junior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) carded a career-best round of two-under par 70 and currently is tied for fourth-place after recording four birdies in the opening round. Senior Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) entered the clubhouse with a three-over par 75.

Junior Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) and sophomore Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) both finished play on Monday with a 78. Del Bosque recorded par on eight of his last nine holes.

The Tartans had one individual enter the invitational, as sophomore Adrian Berger (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) carded a round of 81.
