The Emory University golf team finished its participation at the NCAA D-III Fall Preview on Tuesday. The 54-hole event was played at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Playing on the 6,820-yard, par-72 El Campeon Course for the second straight day, Emory turned in a score of 305, leaving the Eagles with a final total 909, good for an 11th-place tie with UT-Tyler out of 18 teams. Huntingdon College rolled to a first-place performance with a three-day effort of 868 (282-293-293), with Wittenberg coming in second at 889 (281-312-296). Guilford College was third (895) while Mary Hardin-Baylor, Berry College and Methodist all tied for fourth at 898.
Freshman Matt Organisak turned in Emory's best third-round score, registering a two-over par 74 that checked him in at 226, tying for 27th place out of 92 players. The Eagles' top performer for the tournament was junior Keenan Hickton, whose 225 (69-78-78) tied for 22nd. Closing out the Emory scorers on Tuesday, all at 77, were Sean Murphy (231, t-50th), sophomore Anthony Muscato (232, t-56th) and sophomore Connor Yakubov (233, t-62nd).
Will Thrash of Huntingdon claimed medalist honors with a solid four-under par 212 (67-75-70).
