Emory Tied For Fifth After First Round Of Rhodes College Fall Classic

The Emory University golf team opened the fall portion of its 2016-17 season on Sunday, competing at the Rhodes College Collegiate Fall Classic. The 36-hole event is being conducted at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Tunica National Course in Tunica, Mississippi. Serving as the host institution is Rhodes College.

The Eagles of head coach John Sjoberg are tied with Webster University for fifth place out of 18 teams, with both teams posting scores of 10-over par 298. Sewanee and UT-Tyler are deadlocked for the No. 1 spot after the opening round at 290, while host Rhodes is third at 293. 

Junior Sean Murphy made a memorable debut for Emory, pacing the Eagles and standing tied for second in the 96-player field with a three-under 69, which featured five birdies and a pair of bogeys. Junior Keenan Hickton was second on the team's scoresheet and 12th overall after carding a one-over par 73.  Sophomores Anthony Muscato and Connor Yakubov rounded out the Eagles' scoring with marks of 77 and 79, respectively. Freshman Matt Organisak competed and finished with an 80.  Sitting atop the leader board after the first 18 holes is Brandon Rougeau of UT-Tyler with a five-under 67.
