NYU Wins ECAC Championship

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's golf team captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on Sunday, October 1, at the Ravenswood Country Club in Victor, NY. NYU played with an A team and a B team, with the A squad coming away with the victory.

The Violets' A team set one NYU record and tied another over the weekend. The team shot a program-low 584 over the two rounds. The previous record (587) was set at the Williams College Invitational in 2009. The Violets also tied the single-round record of 288., which was established at the Northeast Single Tournament in 2004.

"It was an amazing team accomplishment with all five players contributing to the overall team score," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "We are a strong cohesive unit whose players always gives it their all. The team came together and gave an all-around great effort."

Leading the Violets to victory was senior captain Eric Tarakjian. The La Jolla, CA, native claimed first place individually by posting a final score of 141 after shooting 70 on Sunday. Not far behind in third place was freshman Jensen Li with an overall score of 143.

"Eric played really well," said Johnson. "After struggling on an early hole, he made an unbelievable par. He played a solid round from then on, adding in some birdies at the end. Jensen was pretty consistent all day, as well."

Tarakijan and Li both earned ECAC First Team All-Tournamant honors for their efforts this weekend.
