From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's golf team is in first place after round one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, which is being held on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Rochester, NY.

NYU has two teams (A and B) competing over the weekend

NYU's "A" team compiled a total of 296 strokes on Saturday to push ahead of Rutgers-Camden University by one stroke.

"Best round as a team this year," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "Even better than last week. We are learning what good golf is."

Senior Eric Tarakjian shot 71 and is tied for second place. He currently trails Karl Deuble (St. John Fisher College) by one stroke. Following at his teammate's heels is freshman Jensen Li, who shot 72 and is in a four-way tie for fifth.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore Lucas Oberholtzer posted a 75 and is in an eight-way tie for 15th.

- Freshman Kelly Sun and senior captain Matthew Love ("B" Team) are in a nine-way tie for 31st, each shooting 78.

- Sophomore Qizhi Wong shot 80.

"We are starting to buy into the new system and the new approach," Johnson said. "Some of the guys, like Matt Shen (81) and Kelly Sun, have the potential to score real low tomorrow and be our key for a victory. The guys just have to continue working off their progress today."
