From NYU Invitational
The New York University men's golf team completed play at the NYU Spring Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9, at the par-71, 6,547-yard Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ. NYU brought two teams (A and B) to the event.
The Violets' A team shot 636 (325-311) over the weekend to tie with yesterday's leader Farmingdale State College for fourth. NYU's B team followed in sixth place by compiling a score of 654 (339-315) in the 11-team competition.
Trinity College (CT) captured the invitational title with a total score of 618 (314-304). Farmingdale's Chris Fischer claimed the individual title by shooting 148 (73-75).
Jensen Li still steered all of the Violets' golfers on Sunday, despite falling into a tie for seventh. The freshman shot 155 (74-81) over the two-day tournament.
Following Li were performances by sophomore Luke Oberholtzer (team A) and individual freshman Rui Zhou in 15th (159) and 17th (160) place, respectively.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior captain Eric Tarakjian (team A) and junior Bryce Holmes (team B) finished in a tie for 20th by posting scores of 161. Holmes, after struggling with his shot on Saturday, shot a team-best 73 on Sunday with the help of three birdies.
- Freshmen Kelly Sun (team A) and Justin Chan (team B) landed in a four-way tie for 28th place by shooting 165.
- Fellow senior captain Matthew Love finished in a tie for 32nd, recording a score of 166 (85-81).
