NYU Closes Out UAA Championship With Win in Third Place Match

The New York University men's golf team completed play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship at the Hammock Beach Golf Club in Palm Beach, FL, on Sunday, March 12. 

Following a loss to Emory University on Saturday, the Violets edged a victory over the University of Rochester by a score of 3-2 on day two in the third-place match. Freshman Jensen Li led the way for the Violets, earning him All-Tournament Team honors. Emory followed up yesterday's performance by capturing the UAA title and Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. 

"I think the guys felt good about yesterday, and they brought that over into today," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "Now we can go into Liberty League play as a more solid team." 

TEAM RESULTS:

1-    Jensen Li (NYU) def. Mulligan (ROC) 2&1

2-    Eric Tarakjian (NYU) def. Mitchener (ROC) 1 UP

3-    Luke Oberholtzer (NYU) def. Luftspring (ROC) 2 UP

4-    Scott (ROC) def. Kelly Sun (NYU) 4&2

5-    Paek (ROC) def. Matt Shen (NYU) 2&1

 Despite falling in his matchup today, Sun had a hole-in-one of 145 yards on the eighth hole.

INDIVIDUALS:

- Sophomore Qizhi Wong improved to third by shooting 78 on the day to finish with a score of 165. He trailed Carnegie Mellon University's Adrian Berger by five strokes.

- Senior Matthew Love finished with a score of 175 after shooting an 86 on day two to land in sixth.

"This boosted our confidence," said Johnson. "I want to make NCAA's. That's our goal. This will help our all-around game."
