Incoming Emory Golfer Matt Organisak Qualifies For U.S. Amateur Championship

Matt Organisak (Sudbury, MA), an incoming freshman on the Emory University golf team, recently earned a berth to compete in the 2016 United States Amateur Championship. The dates of the championship are August 15-21

In sectional qualifying action, Organisak shot a 36-hole score of one-over par 141 at the George Wright Golf Club in Boston, ending up in a four-man playoff to determine the last of the three qualifying spots. He prevailed in a three-hole playoff by making three pars.

Serving as the site for this year's U.S. Amateur Championship will be the legendary Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. 

A total of 312 players will be competing for the prestigious title that will begin with 36 holes of stroke play over the North and South Courses of Oakland Hills.  he field will then be pared to 64 players who will take part in match-play competition on the South Course.

Organisak is the third Emory-affiliated golfer to have qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, joining Lee Palms (2008) and Ryan Dagerman (2009) in that exclusive group.  

The U.S. Amateur, organized by the United States Golf Association, is the oldest golf championship in the country with the first event played in 1895. Many of the golf's all-time greats have been U.S. Amateur champions including Bobby Jones (five times), Jack Nicklaus (twice) and Tiger Woods (three times, all consecutive).
