Emory Set to Defend UAA Men's Golf Title This Weekend

The 2017 UAA Men's Golf Championship will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Hammock Beach Golf Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Hammock Beach is serving as the host course for the time.

Last year marked the first year of match play at the UAA championship with second-seeded Emory University posting wins over fourth-seeded NYU and top-seeded University of Rochester to take the title.

The Eagles are coming off a victory at the 18-team Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate that featured numerous nationally ranked squads. Freshman Matt Organisak recorded a top-10 finish with sophomores Stefano Butti, Noah Apter, and Connor Yakubov all placing among the top-25.

Butti was named Most Valuable Player at last year's UAA championship and earned first team All-Association honors. Yakubov was named the 2016 UAA Men's Golf Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. Apter was named to the all-tournament team and received second team All-Association accolades last year.

Emory, ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division III Top-25 Golfstat Relative Rankings, will face fourth-seeded NYU in one quarterfinal.

Carnegie Mellon University enters this year's championship as the second seed and will play third-seeded Rochester in the other quarterfinal. The veteran Tartans are led by senior George Qian, who has earned All-Association honors in each of his first three seasons. Qian received first team All-Association recognition when he was the individual medalist in the 2015 UAA championship and last year.

Senior Brad Jennette of the Tartans received second team All-Association honors last year, while senior Alex Pomerantz was a first team honoree in 2015. Junior Adrian Del Bosque garnered second team honors in 2015.

2015 UAA champion Rochester was led by freshman Jack Mulligan in the fall portion of the season. Senior Jona Scott has earned first team All-Association accolades each of the past two seasons. Junior Luis Arteaga was named to the all-tournament team in last year's championship and earned first team All-Association honors the previous season. Junior Jason Paek received second team All-Association recognition in 2016.

Freshman Jensen Li of NYU was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Rookie of the Month for October. He finished third to help the Violets capture the ECAC Championship. Senior captain Eric Tarakjian earned medalist honors with rounds of 70 and 71 at the ECAC tournament.
