Rochester Finishes 2nd At Season Opening Tournament

The 18th ranked St. John Fisher College rallied past the University of Rochester golf team on the second day of competition at the St. John Fisher Invitational at Beaver Meadows G.C. on Sunday afternoon.

Overall, the Yellowjackets finished with a 54-hole score of 931 (+67) while St. John Fisher ended two strokes ahead at 929.  On the final day, UR carded a 316 score, four behind the Cardinals 312.  Rounding out the field was Oswego State in third (981), Nazareth fourth (1003) and Hobart fifth (1031).

Leading Rochester to the finish was freshman Jack Mulligan who carded a final round 77 to finish with a three round score of 228 (+12), one stroke off of the two tournament medalists.  Mulligan led the 33-player field with 10 birdies in his three rounds combined. 

Junior teammate Jason Paek was UR's second finisher, ending in 5th place with a 232 (+16) score.  He shot rounds of 78, 77 and 77 and ended up with 35 pars in the tournament, ranking second in the field.

Corey Mitchener wound up 7th for the Yellowjackets, carding a final round 81 to reach his total of 236 (+20) while Daniel Luftspring was one stroke behind at 237 (+21) after shooting an 83 to close out the tournament on Sunday in a tie for 8th.  UR's final scorer from the starting five was senior Garrett Sweeney who shot an 81 on Sunday and finished at 245 (+29) for 54-holes, placing tied for 14th.

Among the three Yellowjacket golfers playing as individuals, Scott Chudacoff led the way, finishing in a tie for 10th place at 240.  The junior improved each round, going from 83, to 80, to 77 in Sunday's final round.  Sophomore Jay Lam carded an 85 on Sunday and wound up with a three round score of 253 while junior Luis Arteaga finished at 254 with a final round 88.
