Yellowjackets Sit Mid-Pack After Day 1 Of Hershey Cup

The University of Rochester golf team sits in the middle of a crammed leaderboard after day one of the Hershey Cup tournament at Hershey Country Club.

UR carded an opening round team score of 315 on Sunday, shooting a +31 score to be tied with conference rival RPI in the standings.  Allegheny College has the 18-hole lead after carding an even 300 on day one, while NYU is third with a 302 and Piedmont sits third with a 303.  The next 11 teams are separated by just 12 strokes.

Freshman Jack Mulligan and senior Jona Scott both shot 5-over rounds of 76 and sit in a tie for 15th place.  Scott had three birdies in his round while Mulligan only had one under par hole, but added 11 pars on his card.

Junior Jason Paek opened with an 81 (+10) while classmate Corey Mitchener shot an 82 (+11) on Sunday to complete UR's four scoring rounds.  Senior Daniel Luftspring shot an 83 (+12).  That group sits in 48th, 55th and 64th places respectively.

Rochester also had three other golfers competing as individuals in the event.  Junior Luis Arteaga was tops among that group with an opening round 79 (+8), good for a tie for 38th place.  Teammate Scott Chudacoff was tied for 55th after his round of 82 (+11) while Nick Mitchell shot 88 (+17) on Sunday and is tied for 77th.
