From University of Rochester Athletics

Three of Rochester's golfers produced rounds of 75 or lower on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Mission Inn Resort & Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Jason Paek had the steadiest round. He finished with a two-over 74. Teeing off from the 10th hole at the Las Colinas Golf Course, he started with a birdie 3, followed by a bogey 4. Paek then made 11 straight pars. With five holes to go, he birdied the par-5 fifth hole, parred the 162-yard sixth hole to sit at one-under. He wound up with three straight bogeys to finish with the 74.

Jack Mulligan fired a two-over 39 for his first nine holes (10-18). He opened with a birdie 3 on the 10th hole. On the par 4 14th hole (473 yards), he had a double-bogey six. Mulligan had back-to-back birdies on holes 1 and 2 to move to par. He bogeyed the par-4 third hole, made two more pars, then bogeyed 6 and 7 before closing with pars on 8 and 9. He finished with 36 on his back nine for an 18-hole total of 75 in his first NCAA experience.

Daniel Luftspring was one-over for his first nine. He opened with a birdie 3 on the 10th hole like Paek and Mulligan. He parred seven of the next eight holes. On his back nine, he  bogeyed two holes to finish with 37 and an 18-hole total of 75.

Jona Scott and Luis Arteaga struggled, particularly on the opening nine holes. Arteaga finished with an 85 and Scott had an 89. He made a nice recovery on his back nine, shooting a two-over 37 in that group which included one par and three bogeys.

On the first day, Rochester shot a collective 309 as a team, 21 over par. The Yellowjackets are trying to finish in the top 18 teams to advance to the third and fourth rounds.

On Wednesday, Rochester will play on the El Campeon Golf Course, a par-72, measuring 6,844 yards. The first Yellowjacket will tee off at 12:50 p.m. from hole #1 at El Campeon. Tee times for the advancing teams to Thursday and Friday will be determined once the field is completed.
