Rochester Sits 7th At Oglethorpe Tournament

After a season best round of 296, the University of Rochester golf team sits in a tie for 7th place in a top notch field at the Oglethorpe University Royal Lakes Fall Invitational at Royal Lakes Golf Club. 

Rochester's 296 (+8) has the Yellowjackets 14 strokes behind tournament leader and #4 ranked Oglethorpe and #15 ranked Greensboro who opened with team scores of 282 (-6). #18 LaGrange is third at 283.  Overall, the field features five ranked schools and nine others who are receiving votes in the Division III Coaches Poll.

UR overall had a balanced effort with all six golfers carding rounds 78 or better on the par-72, 6,838 yard layout at Royal Lakes. 

Freshman Jack Mulligan led the 'Jackets with an even par round of 72.  He recorded a team high four birdies in his round and was remarkably consistent on his inward nine holes, carding seven pars. The first year player is tied for 16th in the 102 player field.

Junior Corey Mitchener and senior Daniel Luftspring each opening with rounds of 74 (+2) and sit in a tie for 33rd. Mitchener tied Mulligan with four birdies on his round for the team lead while Luftspring wrote down 13 pars on his card, ranking fifth among all golfers in the field on Monday.

Rounding out UR's lineup was senior Jona Scott who opening with a 76 (+4) and junior Jason Paek who carded a 77 (+5).  After both struggled on holes 11-13, their second through fourth holes of the day, both Scott and Paek were even par the remaining 14 holes. Scott had three birdies while Paek recorded two on his round.

Overall as a team, the Yellowjackets were even par on the front nine holes, their back nine in the opening round.  Rochester also had an individual competing in junior Scott Chudacoff. He carded an opening round of 78 (+6) and sits in a tie for 65th place.
