Carnegie Mellon Ninth After Opening Round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed in the first round of the Jekyll Collegiate Invitational played on Friday. The Tartans carded a team score of 296 in the opening round and are currently ninth. The field is comprised of 30 teams which has 14 of the nation's top 25 teams in Division III including four of the top five. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

Senior Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) carded seven birdies on Friday and lead the Cardinal and Gray after firing a one-over par 73 to open play. Senior Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) also carded a one-over par 73 while carding three birdies. His 73 is a season-low round.

Junior Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) sits a stroke back of the seniors after finishing the opening round with a two-over par 74. Freshman Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) shot a 76 while freshman Trevor Arashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) ended with a 79.

Carnegie Mellon had two individuals play on the par-72 Oleander Course. Freshman Aryan Chordia (Dubai, UAE/Jumeriah College) carded an 80 while freshman Ben Huber (Hampton, Pa.) shot an 82.
