Carnegie Mellon Men’s Golf Advances to UAA Championship Match Play Final

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team competed at the University Athletics Association (UAA) Championships on Monday, March 12 in a four-team match play format. The 2018 championships are being played at Hammock Beach Resort on the Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida. In the opening round, the Tartans faced the University of Rochester and defeated the Yellowjackets with a 3-2 decision. Hammock Beach Resort Conservatory Course is a par-72 course.

Seniors Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) and Nikhil Mohan (Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) along with freshman Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) all were victorious on Monday to lift the Tartans to their second straight title match.

Del Bosque defeated Aleksander Overli 6-and-4 for the Tartans first point of the afternoon. Mohan then won 4-and-3 over Corey Mitchener before Li defeated Jack Mulligan 1-up to seal the win for the Cardinal and Gray. Li was down two holes with three to play and finished with a birdie on 16, par on 17 and a birdie on 18 to claim the victory by winning all three.

Two other Tartans participated in an individual event taking place among other golfers not participating in match play. Freshman Aryan Chordia (Dubai, UAE/Jumeriah College) carded an 80 while freshman Trevor Arashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) shot an 81.

Carnegie Mellon will face Emory University on Tuesday, March 13 for the UAA Championship. Tee times are set for 7:30 a.m. with the individuals teeing off first followed by match play.
