The No. 6-ranked Emory University golf team completed its opening round of action at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Friday. The 54-hole tourney is being played at the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course on Jekyll Island.

The Eagles are tied with Guilford College and Oglethorpe University for sixth place out of 30 teams, registering a team score of six-over par 294. Holding down the No. 1position after Friday's play is No. 3-ranked Illinois Wesleyan at even-par 288.  Kenyon College is second at 290 while Southwestern (Tex.) ranks third with a 291.

Emory sophomore Matt Organisak paced the squad's with a one-under par 71, tying for 11th place out of 150 players. After a front nine that saw him compile two birdies and three bogeys, Organisak birdie two on the back nine to come in at 34. Juniors Connor Yakubov and Stefano Butti each carded three-over par 74s, good for a 28th-place tie on the leader board, while senior Keenan Hickton rounded out the squad's scorers with a 75. Also among the contingent was freshman Eric Yiu, who ended with a 79.

Jacob Arnett of Oglethorpe and James Mishoe of Guilford each fired 67s to pace the field.
