The Emory golf team concluded the second round of action at the NCAA D-III Championships on Wednesday. The Eagles competed on the 7,150-yard, par 72 East Course at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Emory compiled team score of 299 on the second day of play and stands with a 36-hole score of six-over par 582, good for fourth place. Guilford College will head into the third round in the No. 1 spot with a score of two-over par 578. The host Quakers also played the East Course on Wednesday and finished with a 295. Washington and Lee (292-289) and Methodist (294-287) are deadlocked for second, three shots behind Guilford at 581. UT-Tyler rounds out the top five with a two-day showing of 583 (296-287).
Junior Connor Yakubov led the Emory contingent with a one-over par 73, which featured three birdies, and ranks as the team's top scorer through two rounds at even-par 144, placing him 12th in the field. Junior Stefano Butti had an interesting afternoon, fighting off six bogeys with four birdies to card a two-over par 74, which leaves him at two-over par 146 after 36 holes. Sophomore Matt Organisak and senior Keenan Hickton rounded out the team's scorers with each player shooting 76. Organisak bounced back in strong fashion after starting out at six-over par on the back nine before firing two-under 34 on the front. Organisak is tied for the No. 17 spot among the tourney leaders with a one-over par 145. Freshman Eric Yiu checked in with a 77 on Wednesday.
Following the second round, the field was sliced from 42 to 18 teams. The final 36 holes will be played on the East Course.
