Emory Men's Golf Aims To Defend Title At UAA Championships on Monday and Tuesday

From Emory University Athletics

After opening its spring season by participating in the rain-shortened Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational, the No. 5-ranked Emory golf team turns its attention to next week's (Mar. 12-13) University Athletic Association Championships. Hosting the event will be the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida.

For the third straight year, the Championships will feature a match-play format with top-seeded Emory taking on No. 4 seed New York University on the opening day, while second-seeded Carnegie Mellon squares off with No. 3 seed Rochester.  The winners advance to Sunday's title match with the losing teams competing for third and fourth place.

Emory enters this year's action as the two-time defending champ, registering a down-to-wire 3-2 decision over Carnegie Mellon in the 2017 Championships, with Connor Yakubov prevailing in a playoff against Patrick Chan in the final and deciding point of the match. Yakubov, along with Matt Organisak were the Emory representatives on the Championships All-Tournament Team.

Emory posted a fourth-place finish out of 18 teams at Callaway Gardens, which saw the final round washed out by rain. The Eagles compiled a team score of 292 and were led by Organisak who tied for medalist honors after carding a three-under par 69.  Yakubov and freshman Eric Yiu, who was playing as an individual, each fired one-under par 71s, tying for fifth place in the 102-player field.  Organisak, Yakubov and Yiu all captured all-tournament honors.
