The New York University men's golf team completed day one of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, which is taking place on Saturday and Sunday, September 30 and October 1, at Ravenswood Country Club in Victor, NY.

The Violets entered two squads into the four-team tournament and 'NYU A' currently leads the event after shooting 295 (+7), while 'NYU B' is in third after shooting 317 (+29).

All four Violets on the 'A' squad shot between 72 and 76 in the opening round. Matt Shen leads the tournament after carding an even-par 72 on day one. The sophomore parred all 18 holes on Saturday.

"Matt was impressive and consistent today," said NYU Head Coach Brad Johnson.

Also competing on the 'A' squad were Jensen Li (73), Patrick McNary (74), Kelly Sun (76), and Pratheek Velamuri (76).

Representing NYU on the 'B' team were Stian Lintvedt (77), Justin Chan (78), Bryce Holmes (81), and Qizhi Wong (81).

"It's great to be able to enter two successful teams into a tournament," added Johnson. "It shows how much depth we can have if everyone plays up to their ability."

Penn State University-Behrend (306) and Elmira College (360) are also competing at this year's ECAC Championship.
