The New York University men's golf team has completed two rounds of the Jekyll Island Men's Collegiate Invitational, which is being held Friday-Sunday, March 16-18, on Jekyll Island, GA.
This is the squad's first time participating in this prestigious tournament.
The Violets shot their second-consecutive 299 on Saturday and are currently tied with University Athletic Association (UAA) foe University of Rochester in 17th place. Overall, 30 teams and 150 golfers are competing.
After shooting 80 on Friday, captain Luke Oberholtzer posted a team-best 70 today and now sits in a tie for 58th individually.
"Luke shot two-under par today after going eight-over yesterday," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "He really put it together today and is showing why he is a leader of this team."
After shooting 75 in the first round on Friday, Robbie Keyes mastered the course the second time around, shooting a one-under-par 71 which included seven birdies. In a tie for 20th, he is currently the best-placed individual Violet golfer through two rounds.
"Robbie was terrific," Johnson said. "He was real smooth out there and put up some awesome numbers. Not a bad day's work for a freshman."
After both shooting 74 on Friday, Matt Shen recorded a 79 on Saturday while Kelly Sun recorded an 84. Patrick McNary is at 155 (76-79) for the tournament.
"We are playing well overall and are in a position to climb up the standings on Sunday," Johnson concluded.
