Violets Open Up Play at NCAA Championship

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's golf team, currently ranked #30 in the nation by Golfstat.com, has completed opening-round play at the NCAA Championship, which is being held Tuesday-Friday, May 15-19, at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC.

Tuesday's round was halted at 4:25pm due to stormy weather conditions. Only 23 of the 42 competing teams were able to finish the round in its entirety.

The Violets were one of the teams unable to finish all 18 holes. NYU currently sits in a tie for 26th place after shooting a combined 16-over-par at the resort's par-72, 7,150-yard East Course. Half of the teams are playing on the West Course, which is also a par-72 and plays at 6,780 yards.

Fourth-ranked Emory University and eighth-ranked Guilford College were both able to finish all 18 holes and currently lead the field after shooting five-under-par 283.

Individually, Matt Shen has continued his impressive sophomore season for the Violets. He left the course after 16 holes as NYU's low scorer at one-under par and is currently tied for seventh place of the 217 golfers.

Also competing for the Violets in North Carolina are Robbie Keyes (+4 through 13 holes), Patrick McNary (+6 through 12 holes), Kelly Sun (+7 through 17 holes), and Luke Oberholtzer (+18 through 14 holes).

Round one will be completed on Wednesday morning before round two begins.
