Jason Paek, Jack Mulligan of Rochester Earn Accolades From GCAA

From University of Rochester Athletics

Senior Jason Paek and sophomore Jack Mulligan were honored for their exploits on the golf course this season as both were named to the PING Division III All-Northeast Region team in 2018 as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America this week.

Paek was also awarded a spot on the GCAA's Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar squad for his efforts in the classroom.  In order to be named an All-America Scholar, golfers must be a junior or senior academically and have competed in at least 50 percent of their teams competitive rounds.  Additionally, they must have a stroke average of under 79.0 and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.  A recipient of this honor must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

The Yellowjackets make up two of the 16 golfers on the regional team, with four others representing the Liberty League also being selected.  Both were honored for the second consecutive season with the regional award.

Paek was also named Liberty League Player of the Year and selected to the conference's All-League 1st Team.  In addition, the senior was a 1st Team All-UAA choice after having a career season in 2017-18.

This year, he paced UR with a 75.40 scoring average, over two strokes better than his previous best season.  He competed in nine events and carded 20 rounds overall, posting five top-10s, three top-5s and two wins, coming at the Liberty League Fall Preview and the Liberty League Spring Championship.

Paek's All-America Scholar award is the second in a row for the senior and the tenth overall in the last four seasons for Rochester as a team.

Mulligan was terrific again for the Yellowjackets, earning his second straight All-Region honor.  In 2017-18, the sophomore was a starter in every event for the Yellowjackets and compiled a 76.55 scoring average.  He recorded a low round of 70 (2-under) this season, the lowest by a UR golfer this year.

Overall, he accumulated six top-10s to lead the team while also finishing in the top-5 three times.  Mulligan was a 2nd Team All-Liberty League selection and posted a second straight season with a winning percentage above .700, this year defeating .731 (445-164) of his opponents.
