Rochester is Mid-Pack After Day 1 At Jekyll Island

The University of Rochester golf team sits in the middle of a loaded field after one round of the Jekyll Island Invitational at Pine Lakes Golf Club.
 
UR carded a team score of 14-over par, 302 on Friday and is in 16th place of 30 teams.  Overall in the event, there are 14 teams ranking in the top-25 in the latest GCAA poll and eight others, including Rochester, among others receiving votes in the poll.
 
First-year Steven Zeng paced Rochester by shooting a 1-under round of 71 on the 6,700-yard Pine Lakes course.  Zeng's round featured four birdies and three bogeys and he sits in a tie for 11th place among 150 golfers.
 
Jason Paek was even par through 17 holes, but took a double-bogey on his final hole of the day to end with a very respectable 2-over par, 74 in the opening round.  He sits in a tie for 28th.
 
Sophomore Jack Mulligan ranks T-89th after shooting an opening round 6-over 78, while first-year teammate Aleksander Overli was the final UR scorer with a 79 (+7) in round one.  Overli ranks in a tie for 105th.
 
Rochester's fifth golfer was first-year Ryan Dougherty who shot an 11-over, 83 on Friday.
 
Leading the field is 3rd ranked Illinois Wesleyan University after the Titans shot a team even-par round of 288 on day one.  Kenyon College is second with a 290 and Southwestern University is 3rd at 291.
 
The Yellowjackets also had three individual golfers competing in the Jekyll Island Individual Championship as well.  Declan Hickton leads the contingent by sitting in T-9th place of the 39 individuals after carding a 6-over, 78 on the par-72 Oleander Course.
 
First-year classmate Matt Perez is tied for 13th, also breaking 80 with a score of 7-over, 79, while senior Corey Mitchener shot an 81 (+9) and is a tie for 22nd.
