Yellowjackets Earn Runner-Up Finish In Season-Opening Tournament

The Rochester golf team finished up play over the weekend ending in 2nd place at the St. John Fisher Invitational at Beaver Meadows Golf Club.
 
UR totaled 951 strokes for the three-round event, carding a final round 318 to earn runner-up honors.  Rosemont College (947) took the team title, rallying on the final day for a four-stroke win.  Host St. John Fisher was third at 961, while Oswego was fourth with 970.  Stevens, Hobart and Nazareth rounded out the seven-team field.
 
Rochester's starting lineup was paced by first-year Aleksander Overli who shot a 78 on Sunday to finish in solo 4th place.  He ended the 54-hole event with a score of 233.
 
Senior Jason Paek was the second UR finisher among the starting five, placing 8th with a 54-hole score of 238, ending on Sunday with a 6-over, 78.
 
Sophomore Jack Mulligan carded an 80 in the final round, placing T-9th with 239.  First-year Steven Zeng rounded out UR's scoring four golfers with an 82 at Beaver Meadows, placing T-14th with 241 for the tournament.  Senior Corey Mitchener was the fifth UR golfer in the lineup and placed T-27th with 259, following an 88 on Sunday.
 
UR's individual golfers also fared well, with first-year Ryan Dougherty finishing in a tie for 2nd place at 16-over 232 for the event.  He led all UR golfers and shot a 77 in the final round.  Classmate Declan Hickton was T-9th after a 78 on Sunday gave him a total score of 239.
 
Two other individuals competed, with first-year Matt Perez finishing T-27th at 259 and Scott Chudacoff placing 31st at 263.
