Rochester Finishes Fourth at UAA Match Play

For the second straight day, the University of Rochester golf team lost a hard fought 5-man match play contest by a 3-2 score, this time falling to NYU in the 3rd place match of the UAA Championships at the Hammock Beach Golf Club.
 
Tuesday's match went down to the wire, with NYU's Robbie Keyes topping UR's Jack Mulligan on the first extra hole to claim the final point and the win for the Violets.
 
Rochester was able to get a big win from first-year Steven Zeng over Christopher Nolte, with Zeng being seven holes up with six holes to play (7&6).  Senior Jason Paek carded the other Rochester point, earning a 1-up win over Patrick McNary. Both Paek and Zeng ended up going 2-0 during the tournament, following wins in the opening round against Carnegie Mellon.
 
NYU responded with wins 2&1 wins from both Matthew Shen and Kelly Sun. Shen was able to edge out Aleksander Overli, while Sun defeated the 'Jackets Corey Mitchener.
 
In the championship match, Emory University won the team title with a 3.5-1.5 win over CMU.
 
The UAA also put on an individual stroke play event for players not competing in the match play competition. Rochester's Ryan Dougherty was second of ten golfers, finishing with a two-day score of 158 (+14).  He carded a second round 80 on Tuesday.
 
Declan Hickton led the UR individuals with a 79 in round two, completing the par-72 layout in seven-over.  He finished 6th with a 165. Teammate Ashin Chadha was 7th after shooting an 82 on Tuesday to finish at 169, while Matt Perez was 8th with a two-day score of 176 (93 on Tuesday).
