UAA Men's Soccer Most Valuable Player Alex Swanger Named NSCAA All-American

From University of Rochester Athletics

Junior forward Alex Swanger of the University of Rochester men's soccer team has done it all in 2013.

He was named University Athletic Association Most Valuable Player, 1st Team All-UAA, 1st Team All-East region, Academic All-American and now as the final piece to the puzzle, he was named a 3rd Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Friday.

The Fairport, NY native was UR's top striker this year, scoring a team high nine goals and adding three assists for 21 points on the season.

In playing 16 games before being injured in the second to last regular season game, he also scored three game-winning goals to lead the 'Jackets to the UAA title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.  Rochester finished with a record of 15-3-2 this season and reached the Sweet 16 of the Division III Tournament.

Swanger is the 16th player from the University of Rochester to be selected an All-American and earns the school's 21st All-American award in men's soccer from the NSCAA.  He is the first to receive All-American consideration since goaltender Michael Peacock was named to the second team following the 2009 campaign.
