From University of Rochester Athletics
University of Rochester junior defender Keith Grafmeyer has been
selected as a Second Team All-American in men's soccer
byd3soccer.com. This is Grafmeyer's third honor for
his soccer playing skills.
He is a resident of North Royalton, Ohio and an alumnus of Walsh
Jesuit High School. Grafmeyer is majoring in Biomedical
Engineering.
Earlier this year, he was named First Team All-University Athletic
Association. That was followed by his selection as a First Team
All-East Region defender by the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America, and now his honor as an All-American.
Grafmeyer started 19 of 20 matches for the Yellowjackets this year
(all but the second match of the year – against Cazenovia
College in Rochester's Flower City Soccer Classic). He finished
among Rochester's top scorers, collecting five goals and two
assists for 12 points. He scored three gamewinning goals: at
Clarkson University in September, home versus Lycoming College and
Kean (NJ) University in October.
With Grafmeyer on the back line, Rochester's defense posted 11
shutouts and held six other opponents to one goal. The
Yellowjackets gave up more than one goal three times – and
won two of those three matches. Rochester was 15-3-2 overall
(won-lost-tied). The Yellowjackets won the UAA regular season title
(5-1-1) and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA
playoffs.
In the NCAAs, Rochester posted shutout wins over SUNYIT and Oberlin
College. The Yellowjackets advanced to the Sweet 16 round at
Rutgers-Camden. The season ended with a 1-0 loss to Montclair
University in the Sweet 16.
As the season wound down, the defense got tougher. Rochester
allowed two goals in the last seven matches – one by Emory
(in a 3-1 UR win) in early November, and the goal in the 1-0 loss
to Montclair.
Grafmeyer is the second Rochester player to earn All-America honors
in men's soccer this year. Classmate Alex Swanger was named an
NSCAA All-American at the start of December.
