Junior Connor Webb (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) scored two goals to lead the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team (8-4-1, 2-1-1) to a win over New York University (11-3, 2-2) in an Univeristy Athletic Association (UAA) contest played Sunday afternoon.
The Tartans scored for an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play. Webb sent a ball to the corner of the goal, it hit off the goalkeepers hand, but went in favor of Carnegie Mellon as it found the back of the net.
Despite earlier shot attempts from sophomore Tristan Lockwood (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and junior Stefan Dasbach (Philadelphia, Pa./Wissahickon), the Tartans ended the first half of the game one goal ahead of the Violets.
The Violets were able to tie the game 1-1 ten minutes into the second half as the offense dribbled through the Tartans defense at top of the box which led to a shot scored towards the upper right of the goal.
In the 62nd minute of play, Webb scored his second goal of the game and his 10th of the season after he took a penalty kick that got rebounded, giving him another chance at the goal that put the Tartans up 2-1, which would hold until the end of the game.
