From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team won a
pair of 9-0 matches on Saturday, October 4. The Tartans entertained
Ohio Wesleyan University and Oberlin College at The Club
Monroeville after wet and cold weather moved the matches
indoors.
In the Tartans first victory of the day over Ohio Wesleyan,
the No. 1 doubles team of senior Bryce
Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and
junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi,
India/Millfield School) won 8-1. The Tartans No. 2 and No. 3
doubles tandems of senior Will
Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and
sophomore Jack Kasbeer (Lake Forest,
Ill./Deerfield) and sophomores Kunal
Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep)
and Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell
Valley Central) won by the scores of 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.
Carnegie Mellon recorded all straight set victories in singles play
to go for the 9-0 win.
Against Oberlin in the nightcap, the Tartans double pairs
once again swept to lead 3-0 heading into singles play. At
No. 1 singles junior Abhishek
Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won 6-1,
6-4, while Duncan won 6-4, 7-6 (3) at No. 2. Also winning in
straight sets was Kirkov at No. 3, Zheng at No. 4 and
freshman Tommy Cheng (Cupertino, Calif.) at
No. 6.
