Win Streak at Four After Spartans Defeat Capital, 2-1

Junior forward Matthew Zembas (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley N.W.) and junior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each scored first-half goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Capital University, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at DiSanto Field. 

The victory gives CWRU its fourth consecutive win and boosts its overall record to 4-1-1. During the streak, the Spartans have outscored their competition, 9-1.

Zembas opened the scoring in the 29th minute with his third tally of the season. Twelve minutes later, Cvecko provided an insurance goal on a penalty kick. After being taken down inside the box, Cvecko sent the penalty shot into the bottom left corner for his second marker of the year. 

Capital cut into the lead in the 68th minute off of a corner kick. Curtis Baker sent the ball into the box, and Calvin Saunders corralled the rebound to slice the CWRU lead in half. The goal was the first surrendered by freshman goalkeeper Calvin Boyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and also ended the Spartans' shutout streak at 348:01. Boyle made three saves for his third career victory.

For the game, CWRU outshot Capital, 13-9, while the Crusaders held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Capital goalkeeper Kevin Fikar made seven saves in the loss.
